Young Cody Matthews goes to live with his uncle, after his father passes away.

Uncle Jack, Chris Steele, who subsequently has gone on to a distinguished film directoral career, runs a construction company in Los Angeles. He is, of course, gay, but he does not reveal this to his nephew.
