Introduction to GRUNTS
Raging Stallion closes 2007 with the biggest budget gay porn in history: GRUNTS.
The series plays over three complete and seperate movies, which chronicle the maneuvers of a group of Iraq-bound Army
recruits through their basic training.
Our first thought upon receiving GRUNTS was that it would be uneven. It is
not.
Maintaining the intensity over three films would be the largest obstacle to the success of GRUNTS. Fortunately, the studio goes all out, essentially switching from the quick shot of viagra, to the longer lasting stamina of cialis. The results are impressive.
Each film stands fully on its own, and carries its own weight. Before getting
to the films, something should also be said of the three discs of extras. Well
produced extras always supplement the enjoyment of movies, especially for the
fans. Raging Stallion has created an army of fans around its consistent look and stable
of models. They will all enjoy the interviews, insights and additional moments
in the extras.
In order to successfully execute this production, the studio actually recruited models
with military experience. One of the key ingredients in the entire film is
the fast talking Ricky Sinz. In his personal interview on the extras, Sinz speaks at length about his
own assignment in Iraq. No holding back of opinons here. Lithe, tattooed and armed with a mouth that streams
unending rounds of trash talk for the guys he fucks, Sinz stakes his ground firmly by playing one of the key commanding drill sergeants.
Raging Stallion casts as the recruits an entire battalion of models, many of which are fairly unexposed to the industry at this point.
These guys are mostly emphasized in one
particular movie.
GRUNTS also may be the swan song of Raging Stallion Man of the Year Jake Deckard,
who since the filming has moved into their director's chair.
The film contains significant amounts of setup scenes, casting a mood and setting up the
actual characters. Deckard goes all out playing Sergeant Houle, barking
orders and acting like an ass hole to his trainees. At one point in the first film, all of the grunts
must scramble of out a foxhole, and the last man remaining out gets pissed on.
These imaginative setups work well, however viewers naturally can switch the dvd over to "sex only" mode if desired.
Another thing we found was that in moving through the discs, there was less talk and more action. This makes sense as disc one, The New Recruits, takes the
time to establish the characters, place and mood of an Army training camp. But do not misunderstand, including the non-sex portions, each movie includes
six, that's right, six lengthy and sweaty sex scenes, as well as numerous solo episodes showing off one model's own intimate details.
To summarize briefly: disc one, titled The New Recruits contains
lots of filmed
training. This movie also emphasizes Ricky Sinz and his fucking skills that tell
everyone who is the boss.
Disc two, titled Brothers in Arms, gives special nod to Steve Cruz, whose star
has risen significantly this year as a butch bottom. The producers cast his
close look alike, Orlando Toro, as his brother. In this movie, a top secret
drug turns the entire camp into sex crazed animals, culminating in the "brothers" doing
it with each other. This disc also contains an orgy lasting well over an hour.
Disc three, titled
Misconduct, really is the most "all sex" disc of the collection. This disc features more of the grunts getting frisky with each other,
including some stunning hunks like Max Schutler, Dominic Pacifico and Luke Hass -- all guys who have only appeared in a few movies up to now, where they really
show their skills as masculine sex machines.
Fans can purchase the entire dvd package, which includes all the extras, or they can purchase the films a la carte.
Naked Sword members can enjoy the entire production as well, plus watch all other Raging Stallion movies as much as they wish, similar to
an all you can eat banquet feast.
Ambitious in scope, ample in heat, Frisky Fans stands by our declaration from our review of Mirage that Chris Ward is gay porn's visionary director similar to Brit filmmaker David Lean. (For you kids out there, Lean directed landmark films such as Lawrence of Arabia).
All good movies, even porn, benefit from a vision.
